Everyone Deserves a Home of Comfort and Dignity, and We Hope Our Work Can Make a Meaningful Difference.

Mr H had been experiencing severe ankle and knee joint pain, along with significant swelling in his leg. His condition made it difficult for him to bend down or move around comfortably. Even simple tasks, such as reaching the rubbish chute beneath his sink to dispose of household waste, had become extremely challenging.

Over time, his inability to manage these daily tasks led to a serious accumulation of waste and clutter in his home. Hundreds of tied plastic bags containing urine had piled up in various corners, while incense ashes were scattered throughout the house. Dust, unwanted items and waste continued to accumulate, creating an increasingly unhygienic and hazardous living environment.

The condition of the home presented multiple health and safety risks, particularly for someone already struggling with mobility and joint pain. Mr H urgently needed assistance to clear the accumulated waste, declutter his living space and restore his home to a safe and suitable condition.

Today, Mr H has a cleaner, safer and more livable home.

The improved environment has reduced the health and safety risks he was previously exposed to and provided him with a healthier space to carry out his daily life. Beyond cleaning the home, this intervention has helped restore something equally important — Mr H’s dignity, comfort and peace of mind in his own home.

A fire broke out in his home on August 2023 which left him without power, water and proper hygiene.

Mr A is a mentally challenged individual who lives alone with no immediate family support. In August 2023, a fire broke out in his home, leaving him without electricity, running water and proper living conditions. The aftermath created serious hygiene and safety concerns, with the home heavily infested by rats and cockroaches. At least two rounds of fumigation were required to make the environment safe again.

The fire had also damaged the home's electrical wiring and broken a window. The entire house required rewiring before essential lighting, electrical sockets, appliances and an instant water heater could be restored. However, with limited financial means, Mr A was unable to engage contractors to carry out the necessary repairs.

A Challenging Restoration for Mr A but it's worth it.

This was far from a simple decluttering project. The team tackled severe rat and cockroach infestations, worked without electricity, arranged temporary lighting and power, and carried bulky furniture down multiple flights of stairs without a lift. The home was then fully rewired to restore essential lighting, sockets, appliances and the water heater. Through the collective effort, an unsafe and uninhabitable space was transformed into a cleaner, safer and more comfortable home, helping Mr A regain a sense of dignity and security.

This project brought together 80 volunteers who worked for 12 hours to declutter, 9/10 Hoarding Severity

Uncle L lives alone in a home that had become heavily cluttered after years of accumulating belongings, leaving almost no clear walkway within the house. The severe clutter, combined with a cockroach infestation, created serious health, fire and safety concerns not only for Uncle L but also for his neighbours. With the home assessed at Level 9/10 for hoarding severity, the scale of the task was immense and required a strong collective effort.

To make a meaningful difference, 80 volunteers came together and worked for 12 hours to declutter, clean and repaint the home. The team carefully sorted through years of accumulated items, removed unwanted belongings and cleared the pathways to make the living environment safer and more accessible. In total, 7 skip tanks filled with rubbish and bulky items were hauled away.

What began as an overwhelming and hazardous living environment was transformed through the dedication of the volunteers into a cleaner, safer and more comfortable home. More importantly, the project gave Uncle L the opportunity to live in a space where he could feel safer, more at ease and regain a sense of dignity in his own home.

Mdm S, in her 70s, lives alone in a one-room rental flat without immediate family support.

As she manages her health condition and relies on a walking stick, even simple household chores and maintaining the cleanliness of her home can become physically demanding. During our home visits, she openly shared her concerns about not being able to keep up with the household cleaning and upkeep. For her, maintaining a clean home was no longer simply a matter of tidiness, but a daily challenge that she struggled to manage on her own.

What Mdm S needed went beyond a one-time cleaning service. She needed someone to check in on her, spend time with her and remind her that she was not alone. Recognising this, our volunteers continued to return regularly to help with home maintenance and cleaning, while also taking the time to accompany her and have conversations during each visit.

Providing Mdm S more than Comfort & Dignity

The arrival of our volunteers brought not only a cleaner and more comfortable home, but also companionship, warmth and reassurance. For our team, the impact is not measured only by how clean the home becomes, but by the smile on her face and the anticipation she has for the next visit.

We hope to provide her with a sense of belonging, security and dignity — and the comfort of knowing that there are people who care about her and will continue to be there.

The family had been sleeping on the floor using an old, worn-out and extremely thin mattress.

Mdm H, in her 70s, lives with her two sons in a two-room rental flat. For many years, the family had been sleeping on the floor using an old, worn-out and extremely thin mattress. Their home had little of what many of us would consider basic household necessities, including proper furniture, flooring and essential electrical appliances. The family had been living with bare cement flooring and very limited furnishings since moving into the flat.

The family depends largely on Mdm H’s eldest son, who is in his 50s and the sole breadwinner, working as a service crew at a fast-food outlet. Her younger son, in his 40s, is unable to work due to his condition and requires regular treatment. With the family’s limited financial resources, purchasing a proper mattress, furniture, flooring and household appliances was simply beyond their means.

It was their first-ever washing machine...

For many, these may seem like simple household improvements. But for Mdm H and her children, they represented something much greater — comfort, dignity and the feeling of finally having a proper place to call home. Through the generosity of our volunteers and supporters, we hope to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of families who simply need a helping hand to live with greater dignity and hope.
